Editing Will Showcase Your Excellence

 

You’ve probably been there yourself - feeling ‘too close’ to your work to dive in and start the editing. A skilled editor can help, facing the text not only as a whole, but at the word, sentence, and paragraph level with an eye to improving clarity, consistency, accuracy and flow. An editor does not overwrite the author’s voice, rather works with the writer to make that voice shine brighter.

What Editing Includes

  • Correcting spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors, proofreading

  • Identifying inconsistencies in terms, formatting, and tone and making editorial suggestions to strengthen readability, clarity, and impact

  • Improving sentence structure, word order, and trajectory, as well as adjusting word choice to avoid repetition or to address audience level

  • Conforming copy to a style guide, either internal or popular (e.g., AP)

  • Checking facts

  • Sharing ‘why’ I suggest the changes and offering ‘critique’ on a more broad level if desired

What’s the Process?

I’m open to whatever works best for you.

 

  • We meet virtually and talk about the project/piece: goals, timelines, styles, etc.

  • You send your draft electronically or send link to cloud location.

  • I spend time with your copy. Using track changes, I copy/line edit the document based on our agreement.

  • I send back a draft with track changes and comments.

  • We meet virtually to talk about what I’ve suggested, and work together to get a final copy ready.

  • I send you an invoice once the project is complete. For large or complex projects, I may request a deposit.
