Hi.
I’m Sherri. I use the pronouns she/they. Here is a bit of my background.
I hold a Master of Arts in Religion and Literature from Yale University and a Bachelor of Arts in Natural History Writing from Fairhaven College. I also completed a Certificate in Grant Writing program in 2023 through the People’s Nonprofit Accelerator (formerly WVDO). I am enrolled in a Special Certification Program at UC San Diego in Science Communication (expected completion 2025) and a medical terminology course (expected completion 2024).
My poetry and essays have been published in Subnivian Vol. 6, IS Journal, Duality, Letters, and elsewhere. I have also edited nonfiction and poetry issues of print and online literary magazines. I continue to work on essays for submission to creative and academic journals. I have also participated in various writing and editing groups.
What I bring as an editor:
Strong commitment and extensive experience with inclusive and welcoming language.
Training as part of the Science Communication certification program via UC San Diego
(completion expected in late winter 2025).History of performing medical editing and a familiarity and comfort with medical terminology and technical language.
Training in medical terminology, with a certification expected in spring 2025.
A generalist approach that gives me insight into how to approach writing about topics in ways that appeal to a wide variety of readers
I’ve edited and reported for a small-town newspaper, written ad and web copy, edited and indexed book manuscripts, written and edited significant reports, and collaborated in writer support groups, both academic and creative. Most recently, I have been editing medical content, confirming citations in AMA style, fact-checking, and being part of a mid-sized editorial team.
I am a member of the NW Editors Guild, the Willamette Writers, the Association of Science Communicators, and the Northwest Science Writers Association.
I’m always eager to start new projects. Reach out and let me know what you’re up to.
